toothpate while you brush their teeth? what particular brand of dog toothpaste?
Does a dog has their own toothpaste? how can you brush their teeth?is it also safe if they swallow some?
u can use human tooth paste. Or you can buy the dog kind (in meaty flavors lol). You can also buy a special tooth brush for a dog. A human tooth brush would work fine.
Reply:Ask your vet about what kinds of toothpaste you can let your dog use. And use a regular toothbrush and put NOT TOO MUCH toothpaste on it.. just brush the dog's teeth, nothing too hard. but be sure to ask your vet about the toothpastes! good luck
Reply:DO NOT USE HUMAN TOOTH PASTE NO MATTER WHAT! it can give them diarrhea. There is a toothpaste i forget what it is called but it slips on your fingers and then you can get meat flavored toothpaste.
Reply:It does not matter what brand of toothpaste you use as long as it is made for dogs. NEVER use human toothpaste. It is not meant to be swallowed and a dog will swallow it, and he will be sick.
They make dog toothbrushes, and also finger brushes. Go to you local pet store and they will have some dental stuff there. But most dogs dont like their mouth touched and will have to get used to it
Reply:yes they do. just check petsmart or somewhere. i would think it would be safe to swallow.
Reply:It's best to use a toothpaste that's specifically for dogs. I use Oxyfresh Pet Gel (great for brushing teeth and for any cuts / scrapes / etc that happen) I also put oral hygiene solution in their water and I feed raw bones a few times a week (be careful about this! Read about how to do this first, please!)
Reply:yes!! it is good for their teeth, i get it at Petsmart, the tooth paste comes in meat flavor and alot of brands come with a toothbrush also, just lift their gums and brush, they like the flavor it wont be hard..lots of luck!!
Reply:Yes...if you go to a pet store or even a bigger grocery store (i.e. meijer) you can buy a dog toothbrush and toothpaste. The toothpaste is made for dogs and you don't rinse it out of there mouth after you brush there teeth so it's completely safe. To brush the dogs mouth you just do it the same as you would yourself. Put some toothpaste on the toothbrush and then you have to hold your dogs mouth open and just start brushing. They may not like it at first but if you have a pretty mellow dog it should be easy.
Reply:Our dachshund has her own toothpaste, poultry flavored, and her own toothbrush, as well as a finger brush (a little sleeve that fits over the finger).
Never use human toothpaste. Like someone else said, it's not meant to be swallowed, especially by pets, it could make them sick. The pet toothpaste is designed for pets, and is safe enough for them to consume. My doxie loves her toothpaste. She also tolerates when we brush her teeth with the finger brush. She just licks the toothpaste off while we brush her teeth and massage her gums.
Reply:Dogs clean their teeth by chewing on things. You don't have to brush their teeth for them.
There are lots of different chews and treats on the market that are designed in a way that helps clean their teeth. You can use these but most kinds of chews/bones will have a similar effect. These and the correct diet for your dog shoud keep it's teeth healthy and it's probably less expensive than buy toothpaste designed for dogs.
This should work just fine if your dog is in good health and currently has healthy teeth. If not you can get your dogs teeth cleaned by a vet and if you feed them properly afterwards and give them something to chew on everything should be fine.
My Mum has been a dog breeder/groomer for over 20 years and I've never once known her to brush a dogs teeth.
Reply:yes they do. i am not sure of hte name but you can find it at pet stores and they sellthe tooth brushes too. my cousin use to brush her dogs teeth all the time. it is liver flavored for them
Reply:Your vet can sell you dog toothpaste. The kind we have is poultry flavored. There are brushes made for dogs, although human brushes work fine, too. Just use a little bit on the brush. It may take some time for your dog to get used to it, though, but many come to enjoy it. Our Rottweiler will take the brush, lay down, prop it between his paws, and gently chew on it, and the rest of our dogs come running for their turn.
Reply:There is a special toothpaste and toothbrush available for dogs. Depending on the dog though, it could be difficult to do yourself. The toothpaste is not dangerous for them to swallow, in fact it is made for them to swallow. You could also get it professionally done, but that could be expensive and may include the professional putting the dog to sleep for an easier time with it. This is risky and if you do decide to go professional i would suggest looking into it and making sure they don't do this.
Reply:Dental care is very important in dogs and cats. Dental disease can lead to more serious problems- like kidney and heart disease. Ideally, your dog's teeth should be brushed every other day. Use a toothpaste designed for dogs (as others have said, human toothpaste isn't meant to be swallowed), and you can use either a dog toothbrush or a soft children's human toothbrush. You can start training your dog to have its teeth brushed by letting it lick the toothpaste off your finger. Then next time, rub your finger on just one tooth. Each time, add another tooth until your dog will let you run your finger throughout its entire mouth. Then start over with the dog licking the toothpaste off the brush and repeat the single tooth method. I always give my dogs a crunchy treat afterwards so they have learned to love getting their teeth brushed. Chew toys and water additives can help, but nothing replaces the action of brushing the teeth. Your dog will still need regular teeth cleanings at the dentist (which must be done under general anesthesia in order to be beneficial) to get the plaque and tartar that reside under the gums. Another benefit to regular brushings is that you will become familiar with your dog's mouth and will notice injuries such as broken and chipped teeth much earlier. It is important to have these issues addressed as an exposed tooth pulp provides a direct route for bacteria to enter your dog's blood stream. Good luck!
Reply:I would NOT use human toothpaste. I have a "chicken flavored" tootpaste from PETCO. It also came with a double-ended, extra long tooth brush.
