time choosing an appropriate treat or chewy. Don't give her much treats, because I want her to b in good health and trim. Any ideas?
Another question: There's a woman who brings her dog, similar to a Lhasa to the dog park, and the dog is very overweight, and looks sick. I have spoken to the woman, who is foreign with broken English. Have tried to explain to her my concern for her dog, she I feel that she doesn't understand (our cultures are different). Maybe she would rather sit home, watch the soaps and walk her dog down the driveway and back. When I asked her if she took the dog to the vet, she replied that the doctor said the dog is fine. I pointed to my dog, and all the other dogs in the small dog section, and said that none of these dogs look like that. It really bothered me, because I can guarantee, that if I was allowed to take that dog home for a week--by the end of the week---that dog would not look like that! Any suggestions?
What is a good chewy to give a Lhasa Apso? Since, she's not a big dog with big teeth, I have a difficult?
I buy Science Diet Jerky Plus for my Lhasa. They come in big strips kind of like a Beggin' Strip, but are supposed to be a lot healthier. I usually break one up into tiny pieces and keep them in a ziploc baggie by the door, or in a zippered bag on my dog's leash for training treats. He loves them. I also buy the Nylabone treats that look like Greenies and use those as rewards for big stuff, like getting a bath. They're a little softer than Greenies, and apparently easier to digest, as my dog can scarf one down without choking or throwing up, as is often the case if a dog eats a Greenie too fast. Those are the only treats I give my dog, and he is quite trim. I hate fat dogs too (well, actually the owners of fat dogs). As for chewies, durable Nylabones and Kongs are the only toys that have consistently stood up to both my Lhasa and my mom's. They may not look tough, but those dogs can chew! Just get the smallest size in each.
Reply:They have wonderful hard rubber toys that are proportioned to the dog's size and you can put a dab of peanut inside or cheese and it will let them chew for hours and be entertained; its great when a dog is home alone and bored, it keeps them busy.
Reply:Don't give the dog rawhide treats or chews - they don't digest well and can block the intestines.
Reply:Hm... 1. Go to any store with a pet section-they have mini rawhides, great!!! as long as u don't give 2 many, or dog will get sick!! 2. Uh...Take pics of the dog and give them 2 a vet, ask them about it...that's a hard one.
Reply:I have a pomeranian which is about the same size and I give her nylabone chews and they are good for their teeth. If your dog doesn't like it then put some peanut butter or cheese on it or in a Kong toy.
About the second question, ask her if she's going on any trips soon because my mom once babysat a REALLY fat pug for a week, by the end of the week, the owner didn't regognize the pug. What she did was make it walk up and down stairs for treats and took it for daily walks and it worked like a charm.
Reply:I also have a little dog and there is this chew toy called a KONG. My dog loves it. It looks weird but you can put a treat or peanut butter inside it and the dog will chew it for hours while getting a tasty treat.
Reply:I don't think it's any of you business about the weight of the dog you met in the park. If the dog's vet is not concerned, then you should keep your nose out of it. How dare you judge!!! Plus, if you could take all that weight off a dog in one week, then that's ANIMAL CRUELTY!!!! As with people, dogs should not lose weight rapidly -- so if you think you can have it off in a week, your STARVING that animal and SHAME ON YOU!!!!!!!
Reply:I have 4 little dogs and they all absolutely love "Teenie Greenies" more than any other chew treat. Greenies come in several different sizes.
Reply:Hi my vet told me to buy some dry pigs ears.
as they are the right texture for small dogs.
hope this helps..
