My dog needs some teeth pulled out.?

The vet has quoted £400.00. Somebody told me that this is excessive? Can anyone relate any personal experiences and how much it cost them? Should I be asking another vet?

My dog needs some teeth pulled out.?
This does seem pricey - but how big is your dog? A lot of the cost will be the anaesthetic, and this is very often calculated by £s per lb. My crossbreed - size of a small dobermann, slim build, had a scale and polish and a tooth removed under general anaesthetic last year, and it cost me about £200 - so unless your dog is a mastiff, rottie, great dane etc, I would think that is pretty pricey. It certainly wouldn't hurt to get another quote - ask your current vet for a breakdown of the prices first, so you can make an accurate comparison.
Reply:You could try calling around and getting different quotes. That seems like a good price to me. Her in Ontario, I pay $350 just to get the dogs teeth cleaned.
Reply:It depends on how many teeth are being pulled. There is the cost to put them to sleep which can be different depending on the vet.....mine is between 50-75.00. I have a yorkie and he had to have some teeth pulled but they did it at the same time he was neutered so it saved me a little money. I would call some different vets and ask an approximate cost.....
Reply:Hm. We charge between $187 - $250 for the dental (depending on the size of the dog) and between $5- $15 per extraction depending on how difficult and how large the tooth is that needs to be removed.

No harm in calling for estimates.
Reply:Go to carecredit.com and you can get an interest free card. You just put you vet bills on there, and you have a year to pay it off in little amounts. It's wonderful, you should definately look into it!
Reply:On January 30th my chihuahua had all his teeth except for a couple molars pulled, and while he was under they neutered him too..The whole thing cost me $425.00...The most expensive part of it is the anesthesia...So if you have a bigger dog, $400 sounds about right..Some vet vary..It wouldn't hurt to call around to different clinics and get some estimates. Everyone loves to save $$$!! Good luck to the puppy!
Reply:First just want to say I live in the US so it varies a bit here.

I work as a surgical technician at an animal hospital and work in dentistry on a regular basis.

The cost is dependent on a lot of things. First, the procedure will be done under anesthesia so that is where some of the cost comes into play.

It also depends on which teeth need to be extracted. A lot of a dogs teeth are 2 or 3 rooted teeth so it can be a lengthy process so you're paying for the labor and the time spent to extract these teeth.

The cost most likely also includes a professional dental cleaning.

If you're concerned about the cost, have the veterinarian give you an itemized estimate of all the procedures being done and how much each procedure is. You can then begin to understand why dental care is expensive because there are a lot of factors - IV catheter, anesthetic drugs, dental cleaning, extracting teeth, nursing care, pain medication, etc.
Reply:It really depends on the vet prices in the UK. I live in Denmark, where the prices are sky-high, and I have to admit that 400 british pounds sound excessive. It might be the price where you are, but I would definitely make a few calls to compare prices.
