How old should a dog be before you brush its teeth?

does it depend on type of dogs or does it depend on type of tooth paste or both or neither ive had afew dogs but never brushed there teeth

How old should a dog be before you brush its teeth?
Start now! It's never too soon, but to start out, use your finger with some DOGGY toothpaste and just begin by rubbing it on her teeth and gums. Doing this will get her used to things in her mouth rubbing on her teeth. Then work your way up to a brush. Always use doggy toothpaste because human stuff has fluoride and other things that if swallowed, can make a dog sick. Buy a child-size, soft bristle brush (you dont have to use a doggy brush, just doggy toothpaste). Always use soft-bristle brushes. You can brush a puppy's teeth- as long as they are old enough to have some teeth! It doesn't matter if you brush the baby ones or adult- brushing the baby ones is moreso to get her used to the technique. Good luck!
Reply:I've never brushed a dog's teeth, but I would think that the sooner the better. Start while they're a puppy, and get them used to the feeling of the brush in the mouth, without the toothpaste.
Reply:It doesnt matter on what type of dog, its just the toothpaste. Just read the back it will tell you. If your dog is a puppy just brush his teeth without toothpaste. You dont even really have too because their teeth will fall out anyway, then they will get adult teeth.
Reply:i would start at about 2 just because i had 2 dachunds and we waited a while before we started to brush their teeth and they turned out to be not so white anymore, and if you start early they will have fresher breath too.
Reply:dont brush them untill they are properly formed / she has her adult teeth!
Reply:If you are going to brush her teeth, use toothpaste either specially created for dogs, or for toddlers as it's less harsh on their stomachs if they swallow some. Don't use adult human toothpaste.
Reply:You should start when you first get the puppy and do it on a regular basis. You should only use toothpaste made for dogs, never use human tooth paste.
Reply:If you've raised so many other pups, you should KNOW the answer t this question.
Reply:Start brushing your dog's teeth as soon as you pick up some toothpaste. My dog hated the mint flavored toothpaste, and loves poultry, beef, or peanut butter. Start out with some yummy toothpaste with flavors your dog is sure to love. Start by first just getting your dog comfortable with you dealing with their mouth. Put a little pea-sized amount of dog toothpaste on your finger, and let your dog lick it off. then see if you can stick your finger in your dog's mouth and touch some of their back teeth. do this at least twice a week until your dog is comfortable with you doing this. Then start out easy with a toothbrush. No rinsing or spitting is required. They sell a kind of dog toothbrush that you put on your finger, and then stick your finger in and brush with it on. That may work out better for you. Hope this helps!
